Crockery Lake, Ottawa County, July 27, 2013

Time: 5:00-7:30 p.m.

Location:  On shore at Grose Park (Ottawa County Parks),  and the Rustic boat ramp,

Weather:  Temps in mid-60s, very windy, sprinkles, overcast.  Water was definitely warmer than the air.

We fished on shore at Grose Park on the northern end of the lake, it’s a nice park, however, the fishing dock is not even on it’s supports, and it is on shore.  So rule that out.   Right near shore is a mixture of sand and rocks.  My wife used a worm and bobber, as well as a worm on the bottom, with no results.  I used a blue and orange rapala, as well as a black and white spinner bait, with no results.  I ended up fishing with that along the entire park coastline, but no fish.  However, in better weather conditions, plan on wading out and I am certain there are fish out there (it gets relatively deep quickly).  We fished that area for about 1:45 with no success.

I did end up trying the boat ramp on the south side of the lake for about 30 minutes and had a bit more success.  Caught two bass about 30 feet offshore on the same black and yellow spinner bait that I used on the north end of the lake, the second and largest one is shown here:

The boat ramp is small, I had to wade out 4 or 5 feet to really be able to cast.   If you have a boat, there is really only parking for maybe 4 or 5 vehicles.
Crockery lake does appear to be a decent lake and I am sure had conditions been better, that the fishing would have been better as well.
