Fly Fishing on the Rogue River 4-28-2021
Fly fishing on the Rogue River in Rockford, Michigan is a blast in the spring and fall. Summer can be successful as well, but you’re dependent on the heat as well as the river depth.

I decided to do some fly fishing on the Rogue River on the evening of April 28, 2021. Fished from about 5:45 pm to 8:15 pm. Fished just below the dam in downtown Rockford. I’ll make it up above the dam at some point this spring, but the Rogue River in downtown Rockford is typically a good time.
The weather was great. Temperature was in the 50s and it was mostly sunny.
There were quite a few small rainbow trout that were surfacing as well as hitting everything I through at them. I ended up catching 5, but all were under 10″ in length. I’m guessing the DNR put some plants in recently.
Fished primarily with nymphs, although I did use a streamer a couple of times. I ended up mostly drifting the nymphs, and lost 4 of them-3 to rocks, and 1 to a small bush on the side of the river (don’t ask).
Here’s a great fly fishing fly set with streamers, dry and wet nymphs, wooly buggers, and more!
