Little Manistee River, near Manistee Michigan, 7/9-7/10/2016

Fly fished the Little Manistee River in the Manistee National Forest during the evening of July 9th and the morning of July 10th.

Fished near one of the primitive camp sites just west of 6 Mile Bridge.

It’s a beautiful and wild area, but road access is nice, especially with a graded dirt road along the north side of the river.  Plenty of access on both sides of the river, although many of the access sites require a decent walk down to the river-but they are marked.

As to the actual fishing, I fished two small holes and a gravel run around 8:15-8:45 PM on the 9th and then about the same time frame the next morning (8-9 am or so).   The only fish that I saw were very small brown trout and rainbows, the water was relatively low in many spots, and I didn’t have time to search very far up or down stream from where I camped, but there wasn’t much surface action except for one or two 3-4″ brown trout either.

I will return in September once temperatures start to cool down and try a couple of different access points.
