Voorheis Lake, Lake Orion, Oakland County, August 2nd.

This afternoon had some time in Lake Orion, and I had the opportunity to check out the lake that their neighborhood borders and I had some success at the community beach area which has a couple of fishing docks.

Location: Voorheis Lake

Temp: low 70s

Weather: Overcast, with a cool breeze.

Time: 6:45-8:15 p.m. or so.

First, you have to be a member of the community or a guest of some to gain access to the beach area, which does have a boat launch.  The beach/fishing area is on the south west end of the lake, which looks like it has good depth, and plenty of vegetation.

There was definitely some surface action, but it took the use of a red and white spoon to bring in small northern pike:

My next fish was a really nice bass which I caught on a small  grey blue and green Rapala crank bait, using a jigging action.

Here’s the view from the best fishing dock:

I did pick up a very small bluegill with a blue and orange rapala stick bait, but he bluegill was smaller than my lure.
Overall, I had some fun fishing here.  Definitely moves up onto my favorite lakes list!
